New PA Recertification Model: Why bother changing the PANRE?

The 2014 Statistical Profile of Certified Physician Assistants showed that over 73% of certified PAs work outside of primary care. However, the PANRE continues to test examinees on a broad range of topics that often has little to do with an individual’s day-to-day practice.

In fact, the NCCPA also admits that a second reason that the PANRE is being examined is due to the degree of difficulty of the exam. Many test takers report a higher degree of difficulty of the material than in years passed. While the test is meant to confer relevant certification in a comprehensive scope of medical and surgical conditions and their management, it may fall short in basic knowledge that “every PA should know”.

Next week we’ll discuss The Data obtained by the NCCPA over the course of 2015 that lead to the development of the new proposed recertification model.
