Category 1: Self Assessment CME
Every 2 years, one must complete 20 SA CME credits. By the end of the first FOUR 2-year CME cycles, you must have earned a total of at least 40 Category 1 CME credits through SA activities. (One must also earn 40 Category 1 CME credits through PI activities. See Performance Improvement CME Requirements Page).
So, essentially for each of the 2-year cycles you must do 20 credits of either PI or SA activities. Over 4 cycles, 2 PI and 2 SA activities must be completed.
Self-assessment CMEs are means to be a systematic review of one’s own performance, knowledge base or skill set, in order to improve future performance, expand knowledge or hone skills. Most self-assessment activities allow you to take the self-assessment as many times as you like in order to gauge where your own personal knowledge gaps exist. It helps you identify where you need CME or additional self-study to improve your knowledge. Click the link below for a complete list of approved SA Activities.
