New PA Recertification Model: What’s going on?

Maybe you’ve been sending those NCCPA emails to your Spam inbox or just haven’t had time to read them. Let me bring you up to speed:

  • In August 2014, the NCCPA Board made a decision to re-examine the PANRE and make that a focus of 2015.
  • Throughout 2015, the NCCPA conducted focus groups, a Practice Analysis survey to which 15,000 PAs responded, held a 2.5 day in person discussion regarding possible exam models, surveyed PAs about content and format of the PANRE, and surveyed state medical board leaders on CME and exam models.
  • In November 2016, the board selected a new recertification exam model for public comment.
  • You can expect a survey in your inbox in February 2016! And the public comment period extends through March 2016.
  • The board expects to make a decision regarding modifying the PANRE in May 2016.

In a 3-part blog series to follow over the next 2 weeks, we will summarize the foundation for change, the upcoming surveys and proposed new examination. We hope these posts will save you some of your valuable time so that you can participate in the survey with sufficient knowledge of what’s going on and why.
